Prediction markets enter Europe with SS Lazio – Polymarket deal

SS Lazio has agreed a new front-of-shirt sponsorship with Polymarket in a deal worth $22 million running through the 2027–28 season, with an option to extend by one additional year.

The agreement marks the first time a major European football club has partnered with a prediction market as its primary sponsor, underlining a growing convergence between sports, data-driven fan engagement and speculative digital platforms.

Polymarket branding already appeared on Lazio’s kit during the club’s match this past weekend. Beyond shirt sponsorship, the company will also serve as an official intelligence partner, focusing on fan insights and digital analytics.

In a club statement, Lazio said the partnership aims to “explore innovative models of fan interaction” while strengthening its global positioning through advanced data, forecasting tools and digital content.

Club president Claudio Lotito described Polymarket as “a partner capable of interpreting the future,” adding that the deal reinforces Lazio’s international development and ambition to position itself as a modern, competitive institution in a rapidly evolving sports landscape.

From Polymarket’s side, chief marketing officer Matthew Modabber said the partnership aligns with the company’s focus on innovation and data utilization, with the goal of building new fan experiences and engagement models.

The deal follows Polymarket’s recent expansion into European football via a regional partnership with LaLiga in North America. The platform already has a presence in U.S. sports through agreements with leagues including Major League Soccer, Major League Baseball, National Hockey League and Ultimate Fighting Championship.

The collaboration between SS Lazio and Polymarket marks a significant milestone in the integration of prediction markets within European sports. This strategic partnership is poised to enhance fan engagement through innovative data-driven experiences, reflecting a broader trend among sports organizations to leverage technology for growth. By embracing this model, Lazio exemplifies its commitment to remaining at the forefront of the evolving sports industry, potentially setting a precedent for other clubs. As prediction markets gain traction, this alliance may redefine how sports entities approach monetization and fan interaction.
