IBIA Reports 70 Suspicious Betting Alerts in Q1 2026 Across Global Sports Markets

The International Betting Integrity Association (IBIA) has reported 70 suspicious betting alerts in the first quarter of 2026, highlighting ongoing integrity risks across global sports betting markets.

Football accounted for the largest share of alerts with 25 cases (36%), followed by tennis (16) and esports (15). Combined, these three sports represented more than 80% of all flagged incidents, underscoring their vulnerability to irregular betting activity.

A key concern identified in the report is the concentration of alerts in lower-tier competitions and events outside major governing structures. Several alerts in tennis and table tennis were linked to competitions outside official international tours, raising challenges in monitoring and enforcement.

Geographically, Europe led all regions with 28% of alerts, followed by North America and Asia. At the country level, Mexico recorded the highest number of football-related alerts, with additional activity detected in markets such as Brazil, Cyprus, Albania, and Ghana.

The report also highlights the evolving regulatory landscape in Brazil, where a new licensing framework introduced in 2025 is shifting the market from offshore to regulated onshore betting. IBIA data shows that Brazil is becoming a major hub in Latin America’s betting ecosystem, with projections indicating significant growth in gross gambling revenue by 2030.

IBIA continues to expand its global monitoring efforts, overseeing millions of sporting events annually and working with more than 90 member companies and 200 betting brands to detect and report suspicious betting patterns across regulated markets.
