Vietnam is set to redefine the global sporting landscape with the construction of the Trong Dong Stadium, an architectural marvel destined to become the largest stadium in the world by 2028. Moving away from traditional sports hubs like the Middle East or the U.S., Vietnam’s new sanctuary of sport aims to represent the nation’s rapid economic ascent.

The stadium, whose name translates to “Bronze Drum,” draws inspiration from the 2,000-year-old Dong Son bronze drums, a sacred local symbol. The structure will feature a shimmering golden exterior and a massive retractable roof for all-weather events. Inside, the Olympic-style facility will house an athletics track surrounded by a staggering 135,000 seats, surpassing North Korea’s Rungrado Stadium (130,000) and Morocco’s Hassan II Stadium (120,000).

With a total investment estimated at 29 billion Euros (925 trillion VND), the project is the centerpiece of a major urban regeneration plan for Hanoi. This move signals Vietnam’s ambition to host world-class events, specifically targeting the Asian Games and the Olympics between 2030 and 2050.
