Cam Young Wins $4.5M Players Championship Prize Amid Record Ticket Sales

Cam Young captured the 2026 Players Championship title on Sunday, earning a $4.5 million winner’s check—the largest individual prize on the PGA Tour’s regular season. The victory, held at TPC Sawgrass, comes as the tournament set a new record with over 200,000 fans attending the six days open to the public, including practice and competition rounds.

Young, 28, who secured his second PGA Tour victory after the 2025 Wyndham Championship, finished just one shot ahead of Matt Fitzpatrick, who took home $2.725 million, while Xander Schauffele earned $1.725 million for third place. This marks Young as the third player in history to win the $4.5 million Players payout, joining Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy.

The Players Championship boasts a total $25 million purse, second only to the Tour Championship, and surpasses the prize money of any 2025 major championship. Despite efforts to elevate the event to “fifth major” status, the PGA Tour recently paused the push. Dynamic pricing and strong demand led to ticket sellouts on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday for the first time, with secondary market prices exceeding $200 for general admission.

Despite a Saturday delay caused by a shooting incident near the course, the tournament maintained record-breaking attendance and fan excitement. Looking ahead, the exclusive Players Club, with 750 weekly passes at $11,000 each, continues to have a multi-year waiting list.

Cam Young’s win not only boosts his PGA Tour career earnings to $31.23 million but also highlights the growing financial stakes and fan engagement in professional golf.
