PSV Eindhoven has unveiled plans for a major redevelopment and expansion of its home ground, Philips Stadion, in what could become the most significant infrastructure project in the club’s history.
The proposed expansion could transform the stadium into one of the largest venues in the Netherlands, with a target capacity of between 52,000 and 58,500 seats, and long-term projections reaching up to 60,000 spectators. The current stadium holds just over 35,000 fans.
A New Era for Philips Stadion
The redevelopment concept includes adding a third tier on all four sides of the stadium, alongside a new outer shell structure with a colonnade. This design aims to modernize the stadium’s appearance while maintaining its integration with the surrounding Philipsdorp neighborhood and the urban fabric between Eindhoven’s city center and the Strijp-S district.
PSV has described the project as creating an “iconic connector,” blending architecture, community, and matchday experience into a unified environment.
Addressing Demand and Future Growth
A key driver behind the expansion is demand. The club currently faces a waiting list of around 22,000 supporters for season tickets, highlighting the need for increased capacity. PSV also aims to make the stadium more accessible to younger fans who currently struggle to attend matches due to limited seating.
Beyond domestic needs, the expansion is seen as essential for maintaining competitiveness in European football, where stadium size and matchday revenue play a crucial role.
Financials and Timeline
The estimated cost of the project ranges between €350 million and €450 million. PSV plans to begin construction in 2027, with completion targeted for 2030.
Importantly, the club intends to remain at Philips Stadion throughout the redevelopment process, with the most intensive work scheduled during off-season periods.
A Long-Term Vision
PSV envisions the expanded stadium as a “final form” for its home ground, with no further major expansions planned afterward. The goal is to create a future-proof venue capable of serving the club through at least 2080.
The project has been developed in collaboration with architects, city officials, and planning agencies, including the Municipality of Eindhoven, which owns the land under a long-term lease agreement.
PSV general manager Marcel Brands emphasized the scale and ambition of the plan, highlighting the collaborative effort behind the design and the club’s long-term vision for growth.

Eindhoven officials have also backed the project, describing it as a key development for both the club and the broader Brainport region. The expanded stadium is expected to strengthen its role as a central gathering place while supporting the city’s ongoing growth.
