Cristiano Ronaldo Returns to La Liga as Investor with UD Almería Stake

Ronaldo

In a move that bridges his legendary playing career with his growing business empire, Cristiano Ronaldo has officially returned to Spanish football—this time in the boardroom. The Portuguese superstar has acquired a 25% stake in UD Almería, joining the ownership group led by the Saudi investment fund SMC Group.

The transaction was finalized through CR7 Sports Investments, a newly established vehicle dedicated to managing Ronaldo’s sports-related business ventures. While the exact financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, recent valuations by Intelligence 2P estimate UD Almería’s total market value at approximately €49.5 million.

1. A Strategic Partnership with Saudi Influence

The deal strengthens the link between Spanish football and Saudi investment. UD Almería, which was recently sold by Turki Al-Sheikh to the SMC Group, now gains one of the most influential figures in world sports. Ronaldo, currently playing for Al Nassr in Saudi Arabia, stated that his goal is to contribute to football off the pitch, citing Almería’s “strong foundations and clear growth potential.”

2. Vision for the Future

Mohamed Al-Khereiji, chairman of UD Almería, welcomed Ronaldo as a partner who intimately understands Spanish football. The collaboration is expected to focus on:

  • Brand Expansion: Leveraging Ronaldo’s global reach to attract international sponsorships.
  • Academy Development: Enhancing the club’s youth scouting and training infrastructure.
  • Commercial Growth: Utilizing Ronaldo’s expertise to modernize the club’s revenue streams.

3. Expanding the CR7 Empire

This acquisition is part of a broader diversification strategy for Ronaldo. Beyond football, he recently joined MMA promoter WOW FC as a shareholder alongside Ilia Topuria and launched his own production company. Ronaldo’s transition into a “multi-club” and “multi-sport” investor marks a new chapter for the five-time Ballon d’Or winner.
