John Terry’s Personal Collection Hammers Down for $695K at Goldin Auctions

John Terry Chelsea captain armband and match-worn England shirt at Goldin Auctions.

Former England and Chelsea captain John Terry has successfully auctioned over 50 items from his private archive, with the total sale reaching $695,000 (including buyer’s premium).

The auction, hosted by US-based Goldin Auctions, highlights a booming global market for football memorabilia, where rival shirts often command higher prices than those worn by the host player.

Messi and Ronaldo Shirts Break Records

While Terry’s own trophy-laden career at Chelsea and Aston Villa was well represented, the “headline acts” were the shirts he swapped with legends on the pitch.

  • Lionel Messi (Barcelona): A match-worn jersey from the Argentine maestro fetched the top price of $183,000.
  • Cristiano Ronaldo (Manchester United): A signed, photo-matched Premier League shirt set a record for the Portuguese star, selling for $115,900.
  • Thierry Henry (Arsenal): A shirt from the iconic 2003/04 ‘Invincibles’ season set a player record at $98,820.
  • Gianluigi Buffon (Juventus): A gold 2009 Champions League jersey netted $22,265, another record-breaking figure.

The Terry Legacy

Terry’s own items also saw high demand, proving his enduring status as one of the Premier League’s most decorated defenders. Collectors snapped up his England and Chelsea captain’s armbands, boots, and shin guards. Notably, a replica player-issued FA Cup trophy from 2007 sold for $26,840.

A portion of the proceeds from the auction will be donated to the John Terry Foundation, supporting various charitable initiatives.
