Former U.S. Soccer star Jozy Altidore has officially joined the investment group for Oklahoma City’s USL expansion team, set to re-launch in 2028. Altidore joins an elite cap table that already includes nine-time NBA All-Star Russell Westbrook, as part of a massive $1 billion entertainment district development.

A Landmark Sports and Entertainment District

The project, led by investment firm Echo and CEO Christian Kanady, aims to transform downtown Oklahoma City. At the heart of the $1 billion mixed-use development will be a new soccer-specific stadium with over 10,000 seats, built to MLS standards.

The stadium will sit just two blocks away from the Oklahoma City Thunder’s new $1 billion arena, creating a concentrated sports hub in one of the fastest-growing cities in the United States.

Beyond the Pitch: Integration of Tech and Youth Talent

Altidore’s involvement goes beyond a traditional financial stake. The partnership will integrate Sogility, a tech-driven youth soccer training platform where Altidore serves as Chief Strategy Officer, into the club’s development pipeline.

“I wanted to do something that had a sense of a differentiator,” Altidore said regarding his decision to invest. Having retired in 2023 with 42 goals for the USMNT, Altidore brings extensive professional experience to a project that includes other high-profile backers like the Chickasaw Nation and Nick Gross.

The re-launch marks a significant comeback for professional soccer in Oklahoma City after the previous USL franchise went on hiatus in 2022. With significant public and private funding secured, the city is poised to become a major destination for American soccer by 2028.
