Australian motorsport series Supercars is once again looking for a new chief executive after James Warburton stepped down less than a year after returning to the role.
Racing Australia Consolidated Enterprises (RACE) confirmed the departure, describing it as a mutual decision taken in the best interests of the organization as it enters a new phase.
RACE chairman Barclay Nettlefold has taken interim control, with senior leadership now reporting directly to him while the search for a permanent CEO gets underway.
Warburton had rejoined Supercars in April 2025, having previously served as CEO between 2013 and 2017. His return was aimed at revitalizing the series and modernizing its appeal.
During his short tenure, he initiated major changes, including a shake-up of the broadcast team and the removal of long-time commentators.
Despite progress, reports suggest internal disagreements with the board over the direction of the sport contributed to his sudden exit.
The leadership change comes at a crucial moment, with Supercars preparing for its New Zealand double-header and entering negotiations for future media and commercial rights.
