Spain’s top-flight women’s football league, Liga F, has officially launched a tender for domestic free-to-air (FTA) rights. The league is looking for a broadcast partner to show four matches per gameweek for the remainder of the 2025-26 season, with an option to extend into the 2026-27 campaign.
DAZN’s Strategic Pivot
The move comes as the primary rightsholder, DAZN, seeks to recoup part of its €7.5 million annual investment in the competition. These FTA games will be broadcast on a non-exclusive basis, meaning they will air simultaneously on DAZN’s own platform.
This sub-licensing strategy is part of a broader effort by DAZN to manage its massive $9.8 billion in global media rights commitments as the company pushes toward profitability.
Potential Bidders: RTVE in the Spotlight
Public-service broadcaster RTVE is considered a frontrunner for the tender. RTVE has already demonstrated a strong appetite for football this year, recently securing a single weekly fixture for the men’s LaLiga on its Teledeporte channel.
Other current sub-licensees include Catalan broadcaster TV3, which holds rights for 10 games specifically focusing on regional clubs like FC Barcelona and Espanyol.
Key Dates
- January 22: Deadline for written inquiries from interested bidders.
- January 27: Final deadline for submitting bids.
The tender represents a critical step for Liga F in increasing the visibility of women’s football in Spain while allowing DAZN to ease the financial pressure of its decade-long investment cycle.
