The development of a world-class sports and entertainment hub in Frankfurt has reached a critical milestone. Sportpark Stadion Frankfurt (SSF), a subsidiary of the City of Frankfurt, has officially launched a Europe-wide tender for the general planning services of a new multi-purpose arena.

A New Home for Frankfurt’s Elite Teams

Situated adjacent to Eintracht Frankfurt’s Deutsche Bank Park, the proposed facility is designed to bridge the gap between traditional stadium sports and indoor entertainment. The arena will feature a flexible capacity, seating between 12,000 and 13,000 fans for sporting events, and expanding to 15,200 for concerts and large-scale cultural events.

Once completed, the venue will serve as the permanent home for:

  • Skyliners Frankfurt (Basketball Bundesliga)
  • Löwen Frankfurt (Deutsche Eishockey Liga)

Strategic Planning and Investment

The project, which currently occupies land used for parking lots at Deutsche Bank Park, carries a budget of approximately €256 million. The City Council, which approved the project last February, expects to offset this investment through leasing and rental income.

The current tender focuses on the preliminary investigation and design phases, with the contract expected to be awarded in July 2026. This follows the successful launch of a project manager tender last year.

“We are taking the next logical step for the future of Frankfurt as a sports and cultural centre,” said Mike Josef, Mayor of Frankfurt. “We are creating a place that brings people together and has international appeal.”

Modernizing the Sportpark Ecosystem

According to Moritz Schneider, managing director of SSF, the move signifies the transition from strategic preparation to concrete architectural planning. The goal is to build a facility that meets the rigorous standards of modern professional sports while serving as a versatile cultural venue for the entire region.

Notably, Eintracht Frankfurt has expressed interest in operating the facility, which could lead to a highly integrated sports campus at the heart of the city.
